March 20th, 2020

All of our jewelry is different and that means that we should care for them in different ways. Want to clean your diamond? We're here to help! Want to make your pearls sparkle brighter? We have the answers for you! Check out the best ways to clean your specific types of jewelry below! Prior to cleaning, we want to remind you to always get your valuable jewelry checked regularly by us to make sure your stones are in good shape and your settings are secure! Do not try this at home if you have not recently got your jewelry checked!

How to Clean Your Diamond Ring:

Products You Will Need:

  • Dishwashing Soap (we prefer Dawn Dish Soap)
  • A Very Soft Toothbrush
  • Small Bowl
  • Warm Water

Instructions:

Create a solution in warm water and dishwashing soap in a small bowl. Soak your ring for about 20 to 40 minutes, VERY gently brush the stone with a very soft toothbrush and then rinse under warm water. Let your ring simply air dry after this process!

How to Clean Pearls:

Products You Will Need:

  • Soft Cloth
  • A Clean Small Makeup Brush
  • Warm Water
  • Small Bowl
  • Shampoo

Instructions:

Begin by laying your strand of pearls on a soft cloth. Mix together in a small bowl warm water and a drop of shampoo. Take your clean, small makeup brush and drop the bristles into the mixture. By using your makeup brush, slowly go over each pearl. To finish, rinse the pearls with a clean, well-wrung damp cloth. Lay the strands dry out flat to prevent the string from stretching. We want to make it very clear that PEARLS should never be soaked in a bowl.

How to Clean Gold:

Products You Will Need:

  • Dishwashing Soap (we prefer Dawn Dish Soap)
  • A Very Soft Toothbrush
  • Soft cloth
  • Small Bowl
  • Warm Water

Instructions:

Create a solution in a small bowl of dish soap and a little warm water. Give all solid gold bracelets, chains, and earrings a gentle bath in this solution. Any small jewelry place into a strainer prior to putting into the solution; large pieces can be placed into the bowl to soak for five minutes. Swish the items around, then after taking them off lay them on a soft cloth. With a soft toothbrush go over the small crevices and chain links to release any trapped dirt. Place the small pieces back into the strainer and rinse everything under running water with little to no pressure. Slowly dry with a soft cloth.

How to Clean Gemstones:

Products You Will Need:

  • Dishwashing Soap (we prefer Dawn Dish Soap)
  • A Very Soft Toothbrush
  • Small Bowl
  • Warm Water
  • Seltzer

Instructions:

You can care for gemstones the same way that you care for gold, but instead of using regular water, mix the dish soap with seltzer water. The added carbonation helps loosen soil and remove trapped dirt in the setting. Brush the stones with your soft toothbrush; then, dip your jewelry in clear water. Buff dry and see your gemstone come back to its natural sparkle!

How to Care for Your Jewelry:

  • Get your valuable jewelry checked regularly by us to make sure your stones are in good shape and settings are secure!
  • Don’t wear your jewelry when you are washing your hands, apply lotions, perfume or hairspray.
  • Avoid leaving gemstones in sunlight because gemstones will dull when exposed to too much light
  • Keep your gold jewelry in separate places than your other jewelry, because gold can easily be scratched. This includes putting them back into their original boxes after wearing or into soft cloth bags.
  • Chlorine and salt water can damage your jewelry.; ALWAYS make sure you remove jewelry prior to swimming
  • After wearing pearls make sure to wipe them down with a soft cloth. This will remove any perfumes, lotions, oils that could potentially yellow them!
  • When traveling, separate your jewelry in poly bags to avoid scratching and getting tangled
