3 Crucial Tips to Keep Your Engagement Ring Looking Brand-New
June 26th, 2018
It may be oh-so tempting to wear your brand-new engagement ring all day everyday, but doing so could put your beautiful piece at risk for damage and even a lost diamond or two.
In order to keep your ring looking its best, keep reading for the 3 biggest tips to keep in mind to keep your engagement ring looking like the day he first proposed.
How to Clean Your Ring
Thankfully, engagement ring care isn’t a science. There isn’t a lot that is required to take maintain the beauty and shine of a luxury jewelry piece, but the steps that you must follow are very important.
One of the most important things to keep in mind is to clean your ring every so often, thoroughly but gently.
Add a few drops of mild dishwashing soap to warm water, and let your ring soak in the mixture for a few minutes. If you have jewelry cleaning solution available, that works great too.
Afterwards, scrub it with a clean toothbrush to get rid of any dirt, natural oils, or lotions that may have built up over time. Finally, dry your ring carefully with a washcloth or towel to reveal your ring’s new shine!
Avoid Harsh Chemicals and Rigorous Activity While Wearing Your Ring
Another thing to take note of with your engagement ring is that gold is a relatively soft, malleable metal. This means that chemicals or impacts that may not affect your other jewelry pieces may do a lot of damage on your beloved ring.
When you’re doing the dishes, cleaning your home, or coming into contact with harsh chemicals of any kind, make sure to remove your ring beforehand. Not only can the chemicals harm your ring, but you could potentially drop your jewelry down an open drain or into the sink if you’re not careful.
Additionally, take off your ring before working out or doing any activity that requires a lot of movement. The soft metal could get damaged, creating a dent on the ring band itself. In the worst case scenario, a prong holding a diamond in place could get damaged, allowing your stone to come loose or even fall off entirely.
